La Fenice is one of our most beautiful villas in Tuscany. It is tucked away on the lower slopes of the mountains just five kilometres north of Lucca. Set in the midst of protected woodland, it has stupendous wide-angle views over the Appenines, the Lucca valley, the Pisan mountains beyond and the hills towards the sea. Owls, hoopoes and buzzards are more frequent visitors than people: the house is in a little-used but asphalted lane near the church of San Concordio di Moriano.

It has just been completely refurbished to provide a luxury family Tuscan villa that will suit the discerning visitor. It has been designed and equipped to the highest international standards, but using traditional Tuscan building techniques, with cotto floors, huge chestnut beams and many antiques.

 It has a large new private, solar-heated pool with automatic cover just outside the French windows on the west terrace. The pool is surrounded by lawns and backed by dense woodland.

The terraced garden (half a hectare, or more than one acre) offers shady walks among oak and strawberry trees, bay, magnolia, myrtle and other shrubs. Round the house are orange and lemon trees, cypresses, wisteria and lavender.
The two wide, sunny terraces overlook vineyards and olive groves, from them you can see the dawn over the Appenine foothills to the east, and the sunset over the Alpi Apuane to the west. Yet it's only 15 minutes from the famous walls of Lucca  with restaurants, wine shops, delicatessens and supermarkets nearby.

'We are still gently coming down to earth after our perfect week in Tuscany. Where to start? The house of course is elegantly beautiful, without being over-designed, and so constructed that every moment of the day is perfect - morning on the sunny terrace, following the sun as it moves round the house; evenings on the sofa in front of the wood fire. The serene interior with the light and views make it a joy to be in. I have rarely been in a house which imparted such a sense of well-being. The view was breathtaking at any hour of day and rivalled the landscaped views of both the Villa Grabau & Villa Oliva. I shall never forget those lines of mist in the early morning which turned the hills into a floating landscape. What a wonderful achievement. Thank you for letting us share it with you." Guests who find stairs difficult or are confined to wheelchairs will find La Fenice very practical. All on one level without steps are the entrance hall, the kitchen and dining areas, the main living area and a double bedroom and bathroom. Outside, the south terrace and dining loggia the swimming pool, sunbathing areas and lawn, the gravel entrance drive and the north (shady) logggia are also on the same level. The games room underneath is accessible for cars down a short concrete drive.
